Our Hearts Go Out To Boston...

The running community suffered a great tragedy on Monday, April 15, with two terrorist bombs being detonated at the finish line of the Boston Marathon. It seems unfathomable that someone would target a running event. As my fellow runners know, runners are some of the best people on Earth! Obviously someone wanted to hurt a lot of people in a high profile manner, and picked this event. But it strikes to the core of anyone who has ever crossed the finish line of a race, no matter the distance. The entire chaos of the world seems to disappear on the race course, and at many of the larger races, the police presence and sometimes the National Guard, makes you feel even safer. Unfortunately, the reality is, no where is safe. But, we're runners. It's what we do, and we'll keep doing it. We might be a little more aware of our surroundings, or even have a twinge of doubt or fear in our minds as we near the finish of our next race. But we will race again...and again. Our hearts and prayers go out to the victims, families and the people who aided those in need. I'm sure this event will make any runner out there pause. We are a family. United by a common love for a sport like no other, where the greatest challenger is often ourselves. It's a language we can all speak.
